Welcome to Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church!
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever” (Psalm 136:1)
Psalm 136 is an ancient poem, a litany of God’s care for Israel. Each line recounts God’s loving interventions, from creation itself to the present time. Twenty-six times a refrain says, “His love endures forever.” It can get tiresome reading that refrain over and over unless one reflects on why it is there. After each occasion cited in this brief recitation of Israel’s history, the reader is reminded of the many times God showed God’s care to a rag-tag bunch of nomads who became a prosperous nation. There is nothing in the poem specifically about the future, yet one can conclude that the future is secure in God, based on God’s “track record” just recited in the poem. Israel is reminded with each occasion that “His (God’s) love endures forever.” Psalm 136 serves as a reminder to you and me to reflect on the countless times in our own lives that God has provided, rescued, healed, comforted, encouraged, chastized and redeemed us, for “His love endures forever.”
God’s Love and Hope to you,
